BeihangUniversityhas a long-standing tradition in the field of integrated circuits, which can be traced back to the introduction of semiconductor-related courses in 1960. Starting from 1977, theUniversity successively offered courses such as Integrated Circuitsand Systems:Analysis and Design, Principles of Large-Scale Integrated Circuit Technology, and Specialized Integrated Circuit Design. In 1988, Beihang became the firstinstitutionin China to offer education and practical training in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) at both undergraduate and graduate levels.The EDA Laboratory was establishedin 1992. In 2003, BeihangUniversity was granted the authortity to conferdoctoral degrees in thefirst-leveldiscipline of "Electronic Science and Technology" and established two national engineering research centers and four provincialand ministerial key laboratories/centers. In 2005, based on the discipline of "Microelectronics and Solid State Electronics," Beihanglauncheda national talentcultivationbase for integrated circuits. This was further recognized as the first national demonstrationSchool of Microelectronics in 2015. In April 2018, Beihang’sMicroelectronicsSchoolofficially commenced its operations. In October 2020, it became the first institution in China to be renamed as the School of Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering, comprisingthe Department of Integrated Circuit Materials and Devices, the Department of Integrated Circuit Design and Tools, and the Department of Integrated Circuit Process and Equipment. In December 2020, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council approved the establishment of the first-level discipline of "Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering." On October 26, 2021, Beihang University was officially approved as one of the first 18 institutions in China to offer the first-level discipline of "Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering."

TheSchoolcurrently has a total of 124 faculty members,namely29 in the Department of Integrated Circuit Design and Tools, 35 in the Department of Integrated Circuit Materials and Devices, 51 in the Department of Integrated Circuit Process and Equipment, and 9 administrative staff. There are 45 doctoral supervisors, including 16 adjunct supervisors.

Adistinctive talent cultivation system in integrated circuitshasbeen established, featuring"ideological and political guidance, interdisciplinary integration,in-depthindustry-universityintegration, and international dual-degree programs." For undergraduate students, theSchoolhas set threegoalsof fabricating a micro-nano device, verifying a digital chip, andtaping outan analog chip, aimed atcultivating a group of top-notch talents in the field of integrated circuits. In addition, theSchooloffers a "Physics-Microelectronics" dual bachelor's degree programbased onthe Top-notch Talent Cultivation Plan in Basic Disciplines,to further promote theinterdisciplinary and comprehensive talent development.

Moreover, through strengthened international cooperation,theSchoolis committed toenhancingstudents' global competence and the international influence of the disciplineof Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering.In 2016, theSchool's "Ultra-Low Power Spintronics Storage and Computing Innovation and Intellect Recruitment Base" was approved as Intellect Recruitment Base (111 Program)by the Ministry of Education. In the same year, it was also approved as theNational base forInternational Science and Technology Cooperation for Spin Electronics by the Ministry of Science and Technology. TheSchoolhas signed agreementson Double Degree in PhDwith Paris-Saclay University and University of Lorraine, Eindhoven University of Technology, and KU Leuven. It has also signed a cooperation agreement with the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.
